More than 200 golfers are taking part in a charity golf tournament entitled ‘Swing for Life,’ which opened in Ho Chi Minh City on August 30.

This year’s event is held by the Saigon Golf Association to mark Vietnam’s National Day (September 2) and raise funds to buy equipment for medical centres in the Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) islands.

Over the past 12 years, money raised at the tournament has provided wheel chairs for disabled people and provided surgeries for more than 1,800 sight-impaired children. It has also helped build medical centres and a primary school in Ho Chi Minh City and Ca Mau province and installed the solar powered electrical system for the DK1 platform in Truong Sa.
