The German Red Cross last week provided 350 water filters to poor residents in the areas most severely affected by the recent floods in the central and Mekong Delta provinces of Quang Binh and An Giang.

Particularly, 150 20-liter water filters worth VND140 million ($6,700) were presented to households in Quang Binh’s An Thuy Commune, Le Thuy District along with a filter core for future replacement, while the remaining were handed to residents in Vinh Hau and Tan An Communes of An Giang Province.

The Red Cross officials and volunteers also provided necessary instructions on how to use the water filters to the recipients.

Water sources in some central and Mekong Delta provinces have been severely contaminated during the last few months due to the floodwaters, subjecting locals to high risks of epidemics.
