On Monday children at the Hanoi-based Birla orphanage village received LEGO toys personally handed over by Danish Crown Prince Frederik Andre Henrik Christian during his visit to Vietnam to mark 40 years of diplomatic ties between Denmark and Vietnam.

The gifts are part of the 600 loads of LEGO toys, worth around VND6.2 billion ($295,000), that the Danish LEGO Group will donate to needy and physically-challenged children in Vietnam to mark this special event.

The group will join hands with the National Fund for Vietnamese Children to grant the toys to around 10,000 children around the country.

A LEGO spokesperson said 40% of the toys are for children from 1.5 to 5 years old, while the remaining are for those above five years of age.

“This is our annual event to enable needy children around the world to have better recreational opportunities,” he said.

“Playing with the creativity-stimulating toys will strengthen children’s flexibility and confidence.”

Danish Ambassador to Vietnam John Nielsen said the gift granting ceremony was held not only to bring the LEGO bricks to children, but also “to prove the strong friendship between Demark and Vietnam, and cement the two countries’ tight cooperation in the future.”
