A new rehabilitation centre was inaugurated on Monday and put into operation to provide shelter, healthcare, and treatment for victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin.

Located on an area of 900 square meters in Nghia Thang Commune of Tu Nghia District, the well-equipped facility is able to offer treatment and training for the victims, who stay as day boarders.

The center also acts as a health center, providing other services such as acupuncture, for people in need of health consultancy for more common diseases.

Previously, the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) had raised funds to set up three other centers in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. It is planned that VAVA will coordinate to eventually build 55 such operations in most localities nationwide to help AO victims.

In Ho Chi Minh City, local authorities are calling upon sponsors to donate for the construction of a large-scale project named “Lang Cam” (Village of Agent Orange victims), which is planned to be built in Xuan Thoi Thuong Commune in Hoc Mon District.

This year, VAVA has also launched a campaign in the central and northern regions to raise funds for offering gifts to AO victims and their families on the occasion of the traditional lunar New Year (Tet) festival, which falls on January 23, 2012.
