The Vietnam Red Cross Association donated USD30,000 to the Philippines on Thursday in the aftermath of tropical typhoon Washi.

The act comes in response to the United Nation's call on the international community, including ASEAN countries, to assist the Philippines.

Typhoon Washi washed away entire villages when it whipped the country on December 17, 2011, leaving 1400 dead or missing across eight provinces in the Southern Mindanao region alongside a trail of flattened homes and broken bridges. Thousands of flood survivors are currently housed in tent cities.

Many countries, territorial areas and non-governmental organisations have sent relief worker teams and donated aid to the country with the Vietnam Government donating an additional $100,000 to help in the recuperation process.
