This old man lives on Ly Tu Trong Street in Ninh Kieu District. Nam “Rau” always puts a huge can of mineral water in front of his house beside a plate which carries the inscription “Free water”. During hot summer days, this is a small gift Nam “Rau” gives to poor vendors.

Mai, a lottery ticket seller said, “All of vendors in this area like the free water stall. When we’re thirsty, we come here to drink a cup of mineral water then continue our work. Nam “Rau” really helps us to save money and makes that little bit of difference in our hard lives.”

Nguyen Van To, scrap-metal dealer said, “We receive not only free water from him but also vegetarian meals four days a month. We all feel happy and thankful to him.”

Answering Dan Tri/ DTiNews’ reporter, Nam “Rau” said, “My family and I just want to share some water and food with these poor people. They can consider my house as their stopover to rest for a while then continue to earn their living. Their lives are hard enough.”

The people coming to his house for water and vegetarian meals are mainly poor vendors, like lottery ticket seller, scrap-iron dealer, or cyclo drivers.

On every 14, 15, 29, 30 day of each lunar month, Nam “Rau” and his family serve 50-100 vegetarian meals.
