Around 10,000 people to run for Hanoi children

Roughly 10,000 people are expected to join an event named “The Hanoi Run for Children 2012 (HRC)” on December 2 this year at Thien Quang Lake.

This annual event helps raise funds for the treatment of disadvantaged children suffering from cancer and congenital heart diseases.

The Hanoi Union of Friendship Association (VCFA), the Embassy of Canada in Vietnam, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (CanCham), Manulife Vietnam and Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi will jointly organise the event.

The annual programme usually sees the participation of Government and city leaders, celebrities, students, international organisations and the city’s public in general.

The event, formally known as the Terry Fox Run during the period between 2000 and 2008, but since 2009, its has been renamed into the Hanoi Run for Children.

The HRC attracts between 5,000 and 7,000 participants and raises around VND1 billion (USD47,600) every year. Healthcare has been successfully delivered to 70 children, funded by the proceeds of 2009 and 2010.

The 2011 edition of the Run for children was attended by 7,000 participants and raised VND1.1 billion. The Hospital of Pediatrics, the Hanoi Heart Hospital and the Heartbeat of Vietnam Programme have been using the funds to provide medical treatment to children.
