Even though he has undergone some treatment, his parents lack the means to provide for all the medical procedures he needs. Moreover, the need for constant treatment has been a source of pain to his mother, Hoang Thi Thuan, who has not been able to spend much time with her son since his birth. 

Doctor Trinh Thi Nga, of the respiratory department, said, "Since Dung's admission to Children's Hospital No. 2, he has suffered from a wide range of problems, including lung problems, fever, a heart that is on the wrong side and severe malnourishment.

"Since we're poor, I had to work throughout my pregnancy, even doing difficult physical labour. By the seventh month I had to go to the hospital, where they examined me and recommended that I stay because they saw some heart problems with my child," she said. 

Doctors ordered an immediate cesarean section, which saved Dung's life, although he only weighed 1.6 kilos and had several deformities. Shortly after Dung's first return from the hospital, he had to be brought back because of breathing problems. 

As Dung struggles against his many health problems, his parents continue to struggle with the financial burden for his care. According to the Children’s Hospital No 2, the total hospital fee has reached VND299 million, but Dung’s parents have only been able to pay VND23 million. They continue to seek help from family and friends but have found little support. As his parents run out of money, sadly the prospects for Dung's life are becoming bleaker.
