A poor couple in Bac Giang Province is in great need of financial help to treat their six-month old baby who is struggling with hydrocephalus.

Hoang is rather ill

Born over a month premature, Luong Huy Hoang had an abnormally large head and was constantly ill.

He was taken to hospital for medical checkups where doctors said she suffered from hydrocephalus and said he was in need of urgent surgery to save his life.

Still ill

This came as shocking news to the parents who are struggling to earn a daily living. They managed to collect VND2 million (USD95.07), just because Hau, the father, a construction worker, managed to get an advance on his pay.

Hau took on a nighttime job in order to earn more money for the baby's treatment, as well as pay for the cost of daily living.

Hoang’s father works nights nights for extra money

Hoang has just undergone his first surgery to place a ventricular shunt in one of the fluid-filled chambers inside the brain. Now he is still under treatment at the Central Pediatrics Hospital, awaiting further surgeries.

After being informed about the baby's condition, Hau's friends raised money to contribute to help the family's daily expenses and the treatments, but Hau refused.

“Most of my friends are construction workers who are barely making enough money to get by. My only choice is to try to find more work and work harder," said the father.

Family needs help for further medical treatment

Doctor Dang Anh Tuan, from the Central Pediatrics Hospital, said, “Hoang is in critical condition and suffering from hydrocephalus and pneumonia. We’ve provided him with an urgent surgery. We are continuing to treat him with antibiotics and close supervision of his state. It seems that the only option for the future will be more surgeries."

Hoang's parents have given a bit of hope for the improvement of their young son, but the main obstacle continues to be the money needed for his treatment.
