Mrs.Hoa abandoned by family after accident

By late November 4, Hoa received a VND56 million (USD2,666) donation from DTiNews’ readers.

Nguyen Thi Hoa fell from a scaffold at a construction site on October 17, in the recent days, no one comes to take care of her. All her activities from taking meals and medicine must be aided by doctors and nurses at Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi.

She said her husband has a mental problem and one of her children also suffer from the same disease. Meanwhile, the other child, who functions normally, has not come to the hospital to visit her since he was informed of the hospital fee of VND10 million (USD476).

Vu Hoang Anh, a nurse, said Hoa was hospitalised because she broke her back, and injury requiring an operation to a splint, which would cost VND25 million (USD1,190). However, due to the difficult position the family is in, the hospital decided to provide the operation, but she had to use a splint donated by previous patient. Hoa still must pay VND10 milion in hospital fees.

Some days ago, a neighbour who visited Hoa said that she is the main bread-winner in her family. Besides farming work, she also works at construction sites year round. The hospital has called her family to urge them to take care of her, but to date, no one has come.

Whenever someone asks her about her condition, Hoa bursts into tears. Many relatives of other patients have given her some food or fruit.
