Some Vietnamese reporters on November 13 found two Vietnamese families still get stuck in Tacloban City, which was hardest-hit by the typhoon.

Reporters from Lao Dong Newspaper who visited the area surrounding Robinson Supermarket, and after hours of searching, found Vietnamese citizens still stranded there.

Mr. Nguyen Phuoc from Phu Yen province is now living with his Filipino wife and his two-year old child and Mrs. Mai Thanh Huong is living with her husband from Nha Trang.

They said Tacloban is home to nearly 100 Vietnamese people who do business around the supermarket area. However, to date, no information about Vietnamese fatalities has been released. Over the past few days, due to the harsh living conditions, many Vietnamese people have left their places of residence.

The two families have only enough rice for a few days and wish to return Vietnam.

Further effort to help Vietnamese victims

Vietnamese people living in Tacloban City and neighbouring areas have been ordered to move to Ormoc City to ensure their safety. Ormoc City is about 105km far from Tacloban City.

On the evening of November 13, two officials of the embassy and around 300kg of relief arrived at Cebu City by air. They are expected to arrive in Ormoc this morning (November 14).

Some Vietnamese donors and a number of Vietnamese reporters have also joined the support effort.

On November 13, the Vietnamese Red Cross donated USD50,000 to support the Philippines through the Vietnamese Embassy in that country.

The Vietnamese government has also offered USD100,000 USD in emergency relief to victims of typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines and said it will consider additional aid measures.
