A couple from the central province of Quang Binh is calling for the community to help their baby, who was born with a number of deformations.

The 15-day baby’s limbs have not developed correctly, and has a turmour in her head.

The baby is named Le Van Tan, and is the second child of Le Van Huy, 39, and Le Thi Hong Na, 25, from Quang Ninh District’s An Ninh Commune.

Following calls from DTiNews readers, a reporter made a visit to Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi Town, Quang Binh Province.

Huy said that aside from the birth defects on the head and limbs, his boy suffers from liver problems, difficulty in breathing.

“I was so happy to receive calls from relatives informing me that my wife had given the birth. I immediately went to the hospital, but I could not believe what the doctors told me about the deformities,” said Huy.

The farther said now his legs were in a plaster casts, but his arms are still forming wrongly. Doctors said some tests needed to be conducted to check the turmour on his head.

Ho Thi Sen, Tan’s grandmother, said, "After the floods, Huy has had to work to earn money to buy milk for his son. However, to date, he has not been paid. I have had to sell off pigs and some chickens to pay the hospital fees. We do not how to deal with the hospital fees if we send Tan to other hospital for the treatment.”

Doctors said that the boy would have to be put in about ten plaster casts. After that, if there is any improvement, the family would have to take him to Danang for further orthopedic treatment.

The fee for each time of the plaster cast is nearly one million VND, which is beyond the couple’s ability to pay.
