A young poor couple in the central province of Nghe An is calling for community help to save their twins from fatal diseases.

Le Thi Nam, 27, gave birth to two twin boys in her 7th month of pregnancy, and the babies health has not been good since birth. More seriously, they are suffering from heart diseases, meningitis and pneumonia.

The father, Le Hong Phong, does not have a stable job and has been seeking loans just to save his children.

Early 2012, Nam got married to Phong despite their financial difficulties and lack of family support.

Phong works as a porter, while Nam works as a hired farmhand. They live in poverty but do not complain.

Since Nam was pregnant, she has grown weaker. Her family lived off her husband’s small income.

Truong was facing with meningitisand serious pneumonia

In February this year, she gave birth to twin boys in the 7th month pregnancy. One of the boys weighed only 1.3kg and the other 1kg. Just after they were born,they showed signs of breathing trouble.

Then the two newborn babies were moved to Vietnam National Hospital of Pediatrics for the treatment. Doctors there said Truong was facing with meningitisand serious pneumonia, while Son was suffering from heart diseases and pneumonia, too.

After being given the active treatment at Vietnam National Hospital of Pediatrics, the boys have come out of critical condition. However, both of them are still facing dangerous diseases. Son,10-months old, weighs just over 3kg.

To date, the young couple’s total debts have reached nearly VND300 million (USD14,280), and their children are still coping with disease.
