Abandoned woman longs for family during Tet
  • By Thien An | dtinews.vn | January 18, 2014 09:39 AM

A woman in Hanoi was abandoned by her family at the hospital and has no money for medical treatment for acute kidney failure.

Lien's health has quickly deteriorated

While staying at the hospital with IV in her arm, Nguyen Kim Lien has been left by her family. Everybody in the room sympathises with her, but are unable to answer when she asks, "Where will I be this Tet?".

Dr. Vu Trung Truc, Vice Head of the Department of General Surgery in Thanh Nhan Hospital, said, "Lien was treated previously at Bach Mai Hospital and then transferred to our hospital on December 4 for intestinal bleeding, ulcers and kidney failure. However, when we tried to contact her family by the address given to hospitals, the police said there was no response. We are treating her with dialysis three times a week to keep her alive, but it is also important to locate her family. The nurses have tried to talk to her, but Lien seldom responds. It's harder on the patient when they don't have family around."

According to Lien, she is 49 years old and lived on Bui Ngoc Duong Street. Sometimes, however, she would say that she did not remember anything. When asked about her condition, she only said, "It's hurts, I can't sleep."

The family of another patient in the room said, "She's quiet. Sometimes, when we chat with her, she would suddenly ask 'Is Tet coming?' and 'Where will I celebrate this Tet?'. I hope her family will come back for her."

No information about Lien's family

Lien's illness is in the final stages, so she is in need of her family now more than ever. Everybody in the room said they were moved to see nurses ask Lien to come to celebrate Tet at their homes. Reportedly, Lien beamed and asked "Really? Please let me come celebrate with you."
