A family in Thai Binh Province is in need of help, with both of the parents ill, leaving an old grandmother to take care of two children.

Vu Thi Thao and Do Khac Giang are the parents, from Tra Dong Village, Vu Thu District.  Thao said, "We are just poor farmers and have only a small area of land to cultivate rice, so after completing the farm work, we look for odd jobs to do. Each day we can earn tens of thousands of VND."

But one day, Thao fell when she was working as a bricklayer and suffered from spinal injury. Both of Thao's legs were paralyzed but, because of poverty, she has not been to hospital in over six years. The injury on the small of her back has ulcerated and cause her severe and constant pain, especially when the weather is cold.

Thao's mother-in-law has takes care of her and the housework

In 2012, her father-in-law passed away after a car accident. Her mother-in-law fell sick immediately after and cannot do hard labour anymore.

However the family's misfortunes were not over. Just a few months later, Thao's husband suddenly fainted during work and was taken to hospital. Doctors said he had suffered a cerebral vascular incident and lay in coma for a month. After, he was paralyzed on the right side of the body.

Thao's injury gets worse

Thao blamed herself for being a burden for her 70-year old mother-in-law. Her oldest child, who is now 15, had to drop out of school to find work.

Over the last six years, the family has never really celebrated Tet. Do Thanh Vinh, Thao's second child said, "My brother and I learned how to make chung cakes but Tet is still sad for us. My mother always cries and my dad is just quiet. My grandmother said she hoped our grandfather would bless us with good health."
