Many people have sent food, clothes and books to support Nguyen Duc Dat, a 13-year-old boy from Hai Duong Province who is struggling to take care of his brother and sister, both of whom suffer from mental illness. After their parents died, the young boy had to take on more of a man's role.

His aunt expressed her gratitude towards the supporters, saying, “Our family was very happily surprised on hearing there were so many calls and gifts sent to Dat. He now has a bank account, which was something way beyond our expectations.”

His ill brother and sister have been sent to a local social protection centre, where they can receive better treatment. Dat said he really misses his brother and sister and visits them every weekend.

According to Dat's family, they have received over VND 1.2 billion from DTiNews readers so far, and they even donated part of this, VND150 million, to the DTiNews Compassionate Hearts charity funds to help three other disadvantaged cases.

His family wants to use VND300 million to repair their house and buy essential goods. The rest will be saved in Dat’s account.
