A father of a poor family in Quang Tri Province is struggling to earn a living to support his four children including a son with cerebral palsy after his wife died several years ago.

Doan Kien, 36, now lives with his father and four children in Nguon Rao Hamlet of Trieu Long Commune.

Kien and his wife had three girls and one boy. Doan Ngoc Tu, the last child, born to the family, was frequently ill, and then diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

The couple tried their best to bring him up, but bad luck struck again in 2009 when Kien’s wife died in a traffic accident, leaving him with four small children, including six-month-old Tu, and an elderly father.

Ill-fated father wishes for a miracle

Kien had to do anything he could, including working as hired labourer, in order to support his family. Currently Tu is being looked after by Kien’s father while Kien goes out to work.

Because I’m old and can no longer work, I try to help by looking after my grandson while his father is working,” Kien’s father said.
