A young girl in Hanoi is in desperate need of financial help to treat her blood cancer and support her ill father after her mother recently died.

16-year-old Nguyen Thi Ngoc is undergoing chemotherapy at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion. But during her treatment, Ngoc has to worry not only about herself, but her sick father as well. 

She said, "My father has had a mental illness ever since I was small. When my mother was alive, she took him to hospital several times, but they were unable to help him. Every time I have to go to a chemotherapy session, he tells me to come home quickly because he's scared of being alone."

Ngoc takes care of her father

According to Ngoc, despite her father's illness, her family was happy when her mother was alive. But their lives changed when Ngoc's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. Thinking of their financial situation, Ngoc's mother rarely went to hospital. "I know there are nights when she was tortured by pain but still told me that it was nothing," Ngoc said.

The situation got worse when Ngoc found out she had blood cancer in January. Ngoc's mother passed away just one month later. After that, Ngoc has had to take care for herself and her father. 

Without money, Ngoc can only go to hospital thanks to help from her grandmother and neighbours. "I only want to live to take care of my father. What will he do if I'm gone?" she asked.
