A DTiNews reporter has recently handed over VND20 million donated by kind readers to a homeless woman in the central province of Thanh Hoa.

Handing over donation

After DtiNews covered Nguyen Thi Loan’s story, many generous readers donated. She currently has no residence of her own and has to shelter at the house of an acquaintance in Thieu Van Commune.

Loan, who is nearly 50 years old, married her first husband when she was 30. The man had some psychological issues and regularly beaten her, forcing her to leave his family and return to live with her own parents when she was pregnant her first daughter.

Over a decade later she remarried with another man and had a son. After two years the husband left her after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Now she and her son live in the house of an acquaintance, while her 14-year-old daughter has to skip school to work in the South.

She had to borrow money from neighbours in order to get medical treatment, and their debts have mounted to VND50 million. She has no means to pay back these debts.

Unlucky woman does not have home

“I’d like to give great thanks to those who helped us. I have a dream to be granted a small plot of land, so we can build a small house. I hope I can live as long as I can to take care of my children,” Loan said.

Nguyen Thi Huong, chairwoman of the communal women’s association, said, “Loan’s situation is a desperate one, but we can’t help more because we lack funding. We’ve asked for local funding of between VND10 million and VND20 million for house repairs and building but we’re facing difficulties in the disbursement as she does not own land.”
