Dinh Huong, of Gia Lai Province, was born in 1999 with brittle bone disease, making her fragile to any physical trauma, such as the minor accident on January 29 that left her with multiple breaks and fractures, and a head injury resulting in brain trauma.

Huong stays home with broken limbs and brain injury

Her father was taking her to school when a dog ran in front of their motorbike. The low-speed collision, from which Ding Yung emerged with only scrapes, was catastrophic for her.

The family cannot afford the surgery and treatment recommended by Gia Lai General Hospital, which will cost at least VND45m. Yung lost both of his parents since he was young and has no education or skills, so he is a field worker.

His wife, Le Thi Hoa, suffers the same condition as their daughter and has suffered 38 bone breaks, all of which were expensive to treat. Huong's bones have broken 17 times. While bones can heal, the brain injury is critical and has been too much for the family.

"The house and land we're living on is borrowed from other people," said Hoa. "We have some agriculture fields, but because this is a poor area we cannot sell it."

One of Huong's teachers, Tran Thi Nga, said her student had a strong spirit and was hard working, despite her suffering.

Nguyen Duc Hanh, chairman of Dak Ya Commune, called on support for Yung's family so they could raise enough money to help Huong recover.
