The Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS) has decided to provide initial urgent support of US$30,000 to help Nepalese people overcome the terrible consequences of the devastating earthquake that struck the South Asian country on April 25.

The assistance money will be quickly delivered to the quake’s victims through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), according to the VRCS on April 30.

Alongside its direct material aid, the VRCS Central Committee also plans to appeal for donations from people across the country to aid the Nepalese people.

Earlier, the VRCS sent a condolence letter to the Nepal Red Cross Society while collaborating with the IFRC to draw up a list of experienced officials and experts ready to depart for Nepal if necessary.

The IFRC issued an urgent appeal aimed at mobilising 33.4 million Swiss francs (US$35.5 million) for the provision of essential services such as food, accommodation, safe water and hygiene, to 75,000 vulnerable victims. The appeal was made right after the federation spent 500,000 Swiss francs (US$531,000) from its Disaster Relief Emergency Fund to help the Nepal Red Cross Society to implement aid activities for clean water, hygiene and accommodations for 12,000 residents directly affected by the earthquake.
