A young woman in Hanoi is losing her fight against lupus because her family has run out of money for her medical treatment.

After parting with her ex-husband, Dinh Thi Hong brought her two children to Hanoi and remarried. Hong and her husband struggle to support their large family.
When Hong's daughter, Phung Thi Tham, was 10, she was diagnosed with lupus and admitted to Bach Mai Hospital. Tham has been struggling with the illness for the past 16 years and it is getting worse.
Tham was most recently admitted to Hospital 198 with severe edema and hair loss.

"When she was admitted, her whole body was swollen. She needs plasma transfusions and various kinds of medicines, which cost VND2m a day. The family is asking to bring her home," said her doctor, Nguyen Thi Thu Trang.
Trang said Tham will die without treatment.
"My family does not have any money so my mother asked to bring me home. But I still want to keep on living," Tham said.
Tham's mother is still trying to borrow money, but fears her daughter's future is bleak.
