Too many challenges for one family to face

One ethnic minority family in Quang Nam Province is struggling for survival, unable to earn money for a living.

This poverty-ridden family doesn’t even have a chair in their house

The family of Tran Xuan Quang, 30, and Nguyen Thi Tieu, 33, who are of the Co Tu ethnic minority group, are living at Hamlet 5, Ba Commune, Dong Giang District, Quang Nam Province. They have only one daughter, Tran Thi Quynh.

Local authorities built them a house several years ago. They do not have any fields or a garden to grow crops although they would be unable to even if they did. There is only an old wardrobe and a bed to furnish the house.

As DTiNews came to visit the family, within just a few minutes, their daughter Quynh fell into an epileptic fit.

Quynh is only 4 years old and is seriously malnourished. She was also born prematurely. Quang said, “Quynh suffers from epilepsy, she falls into fits while she is playing. My family is too poor to have enough money for her treatment so her disease is getting worse and we are helpless.”

Quang has been blind since he was 4 and his wife is an Agent Orange victim. They married each other and hoped for a better future. Tieu’s disease became more serious and when she became pregnant with Quynh, she could no longer work.

People in Quang’s hamlet live off of farming but Quang is blind so he cannot work the fields. He feels desperate because he cannot do anything to help his family.

Quang said, “Sometimes our neighbours give us some rice or some food however, all families in his hamlet are living in poverty. They cannot give us food all the time. My family lives only on government allowance.”

Their relatives are also living in need and far away from their house so they are unable to help.

Quynh cannot go to school. She often stays at home and does not go out to play with her friends because they are afraid of her epilepsy.

”I do not know how I can earn enough money for her schooling. Her friends all go to school,” added Quang.

The wish of this man never can become true without help from the community.
