Free surgeries have been provided to 2,700 children under the age of 16 who are suffering from congenital heart diseases and are living in difficult circumstances over the past seven years under the ‘Hearts for you’ programme.

Free surgeries have been provided to 2,700 poor children under the age of 16 who are suffering from congenital heart diseases.

The information was released at a conference broadcast live in Hanoi to report outcomes of the implementation of the programme. Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan was in attendance at the event.

Launched in 2008 by Vietnam Television and Vietnam Military Telecommunications Group Viettel, the ‘Hearts for you’ programme has raised nearly VND90 billion donated by more than 8,000 individuals, organisations and enterprises in the country and overseas.

With the achieved results, this programme has brought a normal life to poverty stricken children suffering from heart diseases as well as great happiness to their families.

Earlier in September, 1,500 children suffering from heart disease in the poorest districts in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai were provided with free checks-up and treatment.

At the conference, individuals and organisations committed over VND12 billion to the programme as well as supported 116 needy children with congenital heart diseases to receive free operations.

The organising board set a target of administering free heart surgeries to 3,000 underprivileged children and giving checks-up for 30,000 others, particularly children in remote areas.
