Struggling to pay debts and escape poverty, a family in Ha Nam Province has suffered one misfortune after another.
Ngoc's daughter suffers a fractured skull
Nguyen Thi Chuyen and her husband Nguyen Dac Ngoc borrowed VND50m to open a carpentry workshop, but had trouble attracting customers, so Chuyen continued working as a part-time labourer to earn enough money to cover daily needs and debt repayments.
When Ngoc was carrying his two children and mother on the family motorbike, he had a crash. He and his four-year-old daughter were treated for minor injuries, but his mother broke her left arm and two ribs, while his two-year-old daughter suffered a fractured skull.

"I managed to borrow another VND10m, but we have already borrowed too much so they are reluctant to give us more. We live in a poor village and there's no one else to turn to," Chuyen said.
