 >>  Teen girl supports her sick family

Dan Tri readers have donated over VND95 million (USD4,318) to help a teenage girl in Ben Tre Province who left school to take care of ill parents.

Duyen's family receives the donation

After the story of 17 year-old Huynh Thi Cam Duyen was published, Duyen received VND40 million directly from readers. On October 29, Dan Tri transferred VND95,480,000 to the family.

Huynh Van Em, Duyen's father, said, "I don't know what to say. I want to express gratitude to everyone supported us."

Em said doctors at HCM City Oncology Hospital found a new tumour and decided to monitor his condition for the rest of the year before providing suitable treatment.

Nguyen Thi Phuong Thanh, vice chairwoman of the Red Cross Organisation in Binh Dai District, said they would also help Duyen continue her studies or enter vocational school.

Duyen's father has throat cancer and her mother has cerebral haemorrhage. Meanwhile, Duyen's aunt has mental problems due to impacts of Agent Orange so Duyen dropped out of school when she was in ninth grade and worked in a clothing factory to support the whole family.

Doctors say her father needs intensive radiation therapy if he is to survive, but Duyen can't afford the medical costs and had borrowed VND20m so far to cover medical bills.
