A single mother in the southern province of Hau Giang is calling for help to save her six-year-old son who is suffering from leukaemia.

Ngo Thi Thuy said that her son Ngo Van An was diagnosed with leukaemia when he was one year old. Since then, hospitals have become his home.

Thuy said she had sold out all the family’s valuables, including the house, to pay the hospital fees for her son. She and her husband in turn came to the hospital to take care of their son.

Despite the five-year stay in hospital, the boy’s health condition has not improved. With little sign of improvement in their son’s condition, the father turned to drink and then without warning walked out on Thuy.

Since the her husband left home, Thuy moved to HCM City Tumour Hospital to take care of her son. Every day, they live on free meals of the hospital.

Sometimes during the day, the mother asks relatives of some patients who share the same room to look after the boy so that she can go out to sell lottery tickets. However, the money she earns from the lottery ticket sales barely covers daily hospital fees.

Doctors said that the boy’s condition has worsened, but Thuy can’t afford the treatment costs.
