A man in Thanh Hoa Province who is facing prostate cancer has had to care for his daughter suffering from encephalitis for nearly one year.

Do Ngoc Dinh, 53, in Nong Cong District has been living with prostate cancer for five years.

Dinh said that he stayed at K Hospital in Hanoi for the treatment for a short period of time; however, due to the family's financial difficulties, he had to come back home. Since then, he comes to the hospital for re-examination every three months.

Last year, following a convulsive fit, his daughter was diagnosed with encephalitis. She has stayed in a local hospital for nearly a year.

Since living with the cancer, Dinh only stays at home to help his wife with some housework and then takes turns to take care of his daughter at the hospital. His family have sold their valuables to pay their treatment fees. They have also borrowed money from many relatives.

Dinh said his daughter had good study results and was in the final year; but now she faces a gloomy future due to the disease which causes her serious pains. His wife has looked to get loans to pay for her treatment but the parents aren’t sure they can repay the loans as the family only depends on farm work.
