A young woman from Soc Trang Province is in desperate need of financial support to help cover treatment for her husband and their new-born child who are all in critical conditions due to heart problems.
Nguyen Thi Ca Nau, 26, said that when she was about to give birth to her second child two weeks ago, her husband had to be sent urgently to hospital due to a heart problem.
Nau and her 31 year-old husband, Quach Van Binh, both come from poor families in the province and have never had a chance to school. They’ve only learned enough to write their names. But their work at a timber company in Dong Nai Proince used to earn them enough to live a modest life.
But things have now become too difficult for the couple. Binh is now in Cho Ray Hospital and his new-born son in Children II Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, both in serious condition.
According to doctor Nguyen Lam Hoai Phuong in Children II Hospital, they are now placing a stent in the baby’s heart and wait until he gets 10 kilos before operating.
“The baby will need changing many stents before the surgery,” Phuong said. “Each stent costs VND15 million and the surgery will also cost some tens of millions dongs. This is a rather difficult case and the baby now needs special nutritional care.”
Meanwhile doctor Pham Thi Thanh Tung at Cho Ray Hospital said that the father was now in stage B heart failure and needs urgent surgery which will cost VND 70 million.
Bach said he knew about his condition but he was worried for his little son more.
“If there’s only one choice, I will accept the death and want to give the chance for my son to live,” he said.But his wife is even in more difficult situation because she is unable to afford the treatment for any of them.
“I don’t know where to find the money for their treatment,” she said. “How can I live if they all die?”
