A poor couple in the central province of Nghe An is calling for the community help to save their son who is suffering from a brain tumour after their eldest son died some years ago.

Tran Van Tuan, 16 years old, in Nghi Loc District has recently had surgery for the brain tumour after 10-months of treatment at hospital. His older brother also died of the disease some years ago.

Tuan’s mother Nguyen Thi Huyen said that after the operations, Tuan has to continue taking chemotherapy as the tumour has caused after-effects on his nervous system.

Huyen said that last September, many bruises were seen on his limbs, then he felt tired and found it hard to move his left leg and arm. Taking to hospital, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Since Tuan was at hospital, his parents have had to borrow money from different sources to pay the treatment fees. They have even used the red books of some of their relatives to get loans from banks.

The family lives on farming, so their financial condition is very difficult and to date they have incurred a VND200-million debt, including the old loan resulted from the treatment of Tuan’s older brother.

Doctors said that if the operation is successful, but Tuan will continue needing a long period of chemotherapy.

Tuan’s left arms and legs have started shrinking, causing him difficulties to move. Every day, he only stays in bed and all his individual activities depend on his parents.
