A poor widow in Thanh Hoa Province is calling for financial support to save her two sons from serious diseases.
Since the husband’s death, Pham Thi Lien, 38, in Sam Son Town has taken care of her parents in-law and as well as the two ailing sons.

Over the past six months after a traffic accident, her eldest old son Thieu Van Quang, 17, has been paralysed and also suffered from a stroke despite four operations.
Her husband Thieu Van Tung died in 2005 due to liver cancer, just seven years after they got married.
Lien has borrowed money from different sources to pay the treatment fees for her son. To date, the family has incurred a total debt of VND400 million (USD19,000), however, her son’s health condition has not yet improved. Many relatives and neighbours have provided support, but they have modest finances.
Her second son was also recently diagnosed with heart problems and he has to come to hospital for check-up every month.
Some weeks to come, her eldest son will have to take a brain surgery, but she does not know how to find VND100 million for the surgery. She feels she won’t have any option than to beg for money.
