The little boy, Nghia, in the story, “A life in darkness for twins,” was taken to Russia for eye surgery due to retinal detachment on December 18.

Nghia and his twin brother have suffered from retinal detachment due to premature birth. Nghia’s retinal detachment is at level 4 which leads to visual impairment and his brother, Tinh, is at level 5 which leads to complete loss of vision.

After their story was covered by Dan Tri, the support began flowing in.

Tinh finds his way in the dark.

Hope for better vision if Nghia can access a timely surgery in Russia

Doctors said current health facilities in Vietnam are not available for Nghia’s treatment. The procedure can however, be performed at the Eye Microsurgery Center in Leningrad, Russia. The procedure, which could save young Nghia's vision, will cost a fortune which his parents cannot afford with their modest income. It is about VND 120 million ($6,400).

“Fortunately many compassionate people have stepped up to help and support them. At present, there has been about VND 23 million ($1,200) donated. Procedures and flight tickets to Russia are funded by Thu Hang in Hanoi and Xuan Huong in Ho Chi Minh City.” said Nghia’s mother, Trang.

According to Dan Tri’s news source, Nghia was granted VND80 million ($4,300) by a social activities group. “I have borrowed VND20 million ($1082). No matter how hard it will be, I will try my best to get my son’s eyes treated.” confirmed Trang.

Some vision on Nghia’s cute face.

Trang and her son will stay in Russia for a month for Nghia’s surgery. Her husband has to stay at home to take care of Tinh because he has lost complete vision.

Till date, Dan Tri’s readers have donated VND15 million ($811) to the twins.

DTinews will keep you updated about the results of Nghia’s surgery.
