Despite facing numerous difficulties, the 18-year old girl in Thanh Hoa Province, who was abandoned by her parents since she was small, has pursued her dream to become a university student.

Nguyen Thi Hoa was abandoned by her parents when she was just two years old. Since then, she has been living with her paternal grandparents who are now more than 70 years old. Her grandfather has been paralysed for many years, while her grandmother is often sick.

Hoa and his ailing grandfarther

For many years, besides their income from farming, the three people have lived on the modest welfare payments as a poor household. Hoa has also received a small subsidy for the orphan every month.

They have lived in a very dilapidated house which can collapse at any time with nothing valuable.

Facing various difficulties, but Hoa has always trying to study well and nurtured a dream to pass into a university. She has an aptitude for drawing, so she tried to pass the entrance exam into the fine arts teaching faculty of Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism, so in the future, she can become an art teacher.

Hoa is working for a restaurant in Thanh Hoa City

After graduating from high school, she came to Thanh Hoa City to work for a local restaurant which pays VND3 million per month which she will use to support the family and pay tuition fees.

Her grandmother said Hoa has often wanted to leave school due to the family's financial difficulties, but she had encouraged her to continue the study.

Hoa's old teacher Ha Thi Le Thuy said that Hoa is a very good and energetic student.
