A woman in Thanh Hoa Province is in need of financial support to treat a giant tumour in her leg.

Nguyen Thi Nhan, 23, is living in a dilapidated house at Hong Ky Village, Hoang Phu Commune. In 2012, Nhan noticed several big and red tumours on her leg. She was brought to Hanoi's Vietnam-Germany Hospital after the tumours spread and grew to abnormal size. But after two months of treatment, her condition hadn’t improved and doctors advised Nhan to have the leg amputated.

Nhan suffers from giant tumour

Nhan's family refused and transferred her to Hospital 108. She was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis. She had four tumour operations during the two months at the hospital and was then discharged for radiotherapy at Hoang Hoa District General Hospital in Thanh Hoa Province.

But three months later, the tumour grew again and spread quickly. Nhan returned to Hospital 108 where doctors also advised her again to have her leg amputated. A third of her leg was removed in February but nearly a month later, the tumour returned.

The family continued borrowing money to bring her to hospital. However, seeing that they are already struggling as her disabled father can't work and they still have to support her three little siblings, Nhan refused chemo and radio-therapy to stay home.

Nhan and her father have both lost a leg

Since then, the tumour has grown bigger, oozing fluid and causing her great pain. Nhan said she could only sleep for 30 minutes at night and the pain was getting so bad that she had contemplated suicide.

Her father, Nguyen Van Thanh, lost a leg during a labour accident and one of her sister has bone atrophy. Nhan's mother, Truong Thi Nhan, depends on their small rice fields and extra work to take care of the whole family.

"Our debt is nearly VND200m (USD9,000) now. I don't know when we'll be able to pay it yet my daughter still may have to die," she said. "If only I could take this illness for my daughter."
