Dan Tri Newspaper and Garment 10 Corporation have completed a new bridge in Yen Bai Province.

The inauguration ceremony for the VND450m (USD20,100) bridge was held at Yen Thinh Village, Tran Yen District on October 2. VND300m was provided by Garment 10 Corporation via the Vietnam Study Promotion Fund, Dan Tri Newspaper donated VND50m, with the remainder contributed by local people and other donators in the province.

The bridge is 12 metres long, 2 metres wide and can carry up to 2.4 tonnes.

"I'm really happy. The children won't have to worry about crossing the stream during the flood season. Even adults are also less worried while having to go to work," said Le Xuan Hung, head of Yen Thinh Village.

Over 103 households, most of them are ethnic people, in the village have been struggling to find ways to cross the stream. There was an old wooden bridge but it was too dilapidated to safely cross.

When the bridge was broken, the pupils could only walk across the stream to go to school. During flooding season, the village is almost inaccessible from commune's central and schools.

Dan Tri's editor-in-chief Pham Huy Hoan expressed gratitude to Garment 10 Corporation and Dan Tri's readers who helped build the bridge.

Chairwoman of Yen Bai Study Promotion Fund Ngo Thi Chinh said she was grateful to Dan Tri for building the bridge as well as other classrooms and education activities in the area in the past years.

At the ceremony, Dau Tu Newspaper donated 40 scholarships, that worth VND500,000 (USD22), to the disadvantaged children with good academic records.
