A family in Nam Dinh Province is calling for financial support to treat their little daughter who is suffering from corneal burns after falling into a soup pot.

Dinh Thi Ngot is blaming herself for the injuries of her daughter, Mai Thao My.

Mai Thao My has lost sight in one eye

"My husband is a motorbike taxi driver and I sell soup for a living in Hanoi. That day, I was busy and suddenly when I looked at the pot, My had already fallen in. I was panicked and called for help, I can't remember much else," she said.

Nurse Phan Truong Tue at National Institute of Burns said treating My was difficult. My sustains burns to 60% of her body and the family ran out of money and brought her home to use herbal medicines.

Then the next day, her condition worsened and she needed to be brought to hospital. Most of the skin has to be grafted again and she also has a severe eye problem, having lost sight in one of her eyes, Truong said.

My is taken care of by her mother in hospital

Dr. Tran Thi Diu Hien said they had to carry out blood purification process immediately and constantly to save My. "The only solution to restore her sight is to wait for her health to recover and find a corneal donor," Hien said.

The total cost for My's treatment has mounted to VND300m (USD13,200) and the family can no longer afford it.
