Five new classrooms in Nghe An Province, which were built with financial support from Japan's Shinnyo-en Buddhist organisation, were opened on December 15.

This is part of a total of USD27,000 that the organisation has donated through the Vietnam Fund for Study Promotion under Vietnam Association for Study Promotion to help Vietnamese poor students and improve education facilities in remote areas this year.

The new classrooms, which belong to Tri Le 2 Primary School, are located in Pa Com Village. They cost VND363 million (USD17,200), including VND230 million from the Japanese organisation, with the remainder from the local budget.

The opening ceremony saw the participation of Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Association of Study Promotion Pham Thi Hoe; Shinnyo-en representatives Matsumoto Akishige and Nakazawa Tetsuro and representatives from local authorities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Que Phong District People's Committee Chairman Le Van Giap expressed his thanks to the donors, Dantri/DTiNews Newspaper and Vietnam Association for Study Promotion for joining hands to help the classroom construction.

Set up in 1996, the classrooms in Pa Khom Village, part of Tri Le Primary School were in poor condition.

The Vietnam Association or Study Promotion also provided 60 scholarships worth VND500,000 each for local pupils.

The Golden City Joint Stock Company also supported VND30 million for local pupils with school equipment.
