A family in Thanh Hoa Province is calling for financial support to treat their son who was paralysed and seriously injured from a fall.

Le Van Tinh, born in 1993, had to drop out from ninth grade because of poverty. Several years later, his father suddenly fell ill and died, leaving behind his mother, wife and three children. Since then Tinh has helped take care of the family. Tinh's grandmother is blind while his youngest sibling has mental health issues.

Four months ago, Tinh fell from the trees into the rocks while collecting woods in the forest. His cervical spine fractured, he had respiratory failure and pleural effusion. After being treated at Hanoi's Viet-Germany Hospital, he was saved but paralysed and needs a ventilator. His condition is still critical.

Tinh said he wanted to go home because his family couldn't afford it. He was then transferred to Thanh Hoa General Hospital but a few days later, Tinh said the just want to stay home even though he could die. The necrosis on his body looks painful but Tinh can't feel anything.

"I don't want to be a burden for my family. My mother has suffered enough. My illness needs long-term treatment and it's costly. How can she do anything about it?" he said.

Nguyen Thi Cuc, Tinh's mother said, "After his mother died, I have worked hard to raise the children and blind mother-in-law. I had thought poverty was enough suffering to bear but why we're tortured like this? I had to borrow from neighbours and sold the little rice we had to pay hospital fees."

She continued selling two buffaloes and used the land-use certificate as collateral for nearly VND200m (USD8,700). But the money ran out while Tinh still needs treatment.
