Two abandoned brothers in Hai Duong Province are in need of financial support as their old grandparents are becoming increasingly ill.

Vu Thi Nhon and her husband make cakes to sell at markets to raise two grandchildren, a 12-year-old Nguyen Van Nam and 7-year-old Nguyen Van Hoai Lam.

Nam and Lam's mother left when Lam was just one year old. She returned three years later then left again. In the past six years, she has sent VND6m (USD266) to the kids but hasn't communicated with the family. Depressed, Nhon's son also left home and the family hasn't heard from him since.

Unfortunately, Nam's grandfather broke his leg after a traffic accident and his grandmother was told that she was in the last stage of lung cancer.

Nguyen Van Ban, Lam's grandfather said, "If only their parents return home, I could die peacefully. How can parents leave their children alone like that?"

Nam said he wished his grandmother could live.

"I want my grandmother to be healthy again and I'll help her sell cakes at the market. I don't really expect my parents to return anymore. It has been a long time, I’ve already forgotten their faces, I just want to live with my grandparents," he said.

But knowing her health, Nhon wants Nam's parents to return to take care of the children. "If they don't, everyone please help feed and keep the children in school," she said.
