Mother calls for help for ill daughter
A mother in Ha Tinh Province is calling for financial support to save her 16-month-old daughter from heart disease.
Ha Thi Hieu said she often had to rub her daughter's chest whenever she cried to help her breathe easier. She said, "I'm scared when she cries. Her body is stiff and she has breathing difficulty. There was a day she froze for several minutes after crying. We had thought she would not be able to overcome that."
Hieu said she named her daughter Thanh Nhan, to wish for a peaceful and comfortable life. But after birth, she lacked appetite and always cried. Hieu was shocked when her daughter was diagnosed with heart disease and asthma.
At 16 months, the girl only weighs 2.8 kilos.
"We borrowed from everywhere to bring her to hospitals, one after another. Adding up the days, she probably has stayed at hospital for a whole year," Hieu said.
Anything valuable, they sold it for some money. The roof is leaking and the most valuable item left is the old bed in the corner.
Hieu's husband is a bricklayer with a small income so they put up their small garden for sale but haven't been able to find a buyer. When the money ran out, they brought their daughter home. Hieu's husband had to work as motorbike taxi driver through the Tet Holiday in order to bring her to Hue Central Hospital as soon as possible.
