Five children call for help to continue studying
Five children are living with their ill grandmother in a dilapidated house in Ben Tre Province after their mother died and their fathers no longer care of them.
Nguyen Ngoc Ha said her daughter had three children with her ex-husband and two children with her boyfriend. However, Ha's daughter died two months ago because of acute lung failure, leaving behind five children with Ha. The oldest is in 10th grade and the youngest is three years old.
"I have diabetes and strokes too. I'm mostly on my bed and my youngest son is our breadwinner," Ha said.
When Ha is ill, two youngest children are taken care of by the neighbours and return home at night.
Nguyen Thi Kieu Trinh, the oldest sister, said, "I want to finish high school and find work to help my ill grandmother and siblings."
Tran Kim Trong from the local Red Cross organisation in Binh Thoi Commune said they had called for help and provided the children with food, clothes and school supplies. They are trying to raise fund to build a house for them but their funds are limited.
