Japan provides non-refundable aid for 18 projects in Vietnam

The Japanese Embassy in Vietnam held a signing ceremony in Hanoi on March 21 to grant non-refundable aid worth nearly US$2 million for 18 projects in 15 localities throughout Vietnam.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Umeda Kunio said despite rapid urbanisation and economic growth in Vietnam, many people are yet to have access to comprehensive education and healthcare services.

In addition, Vietnam is still facing many challenges due to unexploded ordnances (UXOs) left from the war 40 years ago, have major impacts on a large scale, the Ambassador noted.

He added that the 18 funded projects will cover various fields including healthcare, preschool and primary education, agricultural production, UXO clearance, vocational training and infrastructure improvements, among others.

Ambassador Kunio emphasised the significance of the projects which will contribute to the sustainable development of Vietnam.

Nguyen Ba Khuyen, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tan Son district, Phu Tho province pledged that Tan Son district will effectively carry out the project on improving Tan Son district's primary education environment funded by the Japanese Government.

He hoped that localities in Vietnam will continue to receive support from Japan to address many existing issues including waste, environmental pollution, climate change and others.
