Little boy faces cerebral complications after heart surgery
A poor couple in the central province of Ha Tinh are in desperate need of financial support to save their little son who is suffering from cerebral complications after heart surgery.
The boy Nguyen Huy An in Thach Ha District, four years old, has been staying at Hue General Hospital for nine months for heart disease treatment.
Before the heart surgery, his family signed a waiver that the surgery could cause complications.
An had consecutive fevers for two months after the surgery and to date, he still can’t speak and breathe by mouth and nose; so, doctors had to open a hole in windpipe for him to breathe. Every day, he is given food through a plastic pipe connected to the hole.
His father Nguyen Huy Hoang said that he had borrowed money from different sources for the hospital fees. He even mortgaged his family’s two land plots to take loans. To date, he has incurred a debt of VND200 million (USD9,000).
The boy’s mother Nguyen Huong Tra said she and her husband take turns to take care of their son round the clock.
Doctors said that the treatment for the boy will be very long and costly.
Despite having an insurance card, the family has still pay for many kinds of medicines which are not covered by insurance. Doctors have called on the public for support several times.
Earlier, his younger brother Nguyen Huy Phong also got financial support from readers through DTiNews’ the Compassionate Hearts Charity Fund for eye and heart surgery.
