Dinh Cong Nghia is being treated at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion in Hanoi for leukaemia. His mother has throat cancer and his uncle has mental illness.
Nghia was diagnosed with leukaemia when he was seven after mysterious bruises appeared on his arms and legs.
"When he is ill, I collapsed and didn't have the heart to care for anything else. But I told myself to be brave and keep trying because if I give up everything now, my son will die. I tried to borrow everywhere for his treatment but then in December 2015, my throat hurt and I was diagnosed with throat cancer. Doctors said the tumour already spread," Tham said.

Tham said it hurt after talking for a little bit and sometimes, it's difficult to swallow but she has no one else to depend on.Dr Le Thi Nguyet from the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion said Nghia had had two chemotherapy sessions and is going to have the third one soon. Nghia's condition is worse than other children and he has less chance of being cured.
"If his condition gets better, we can start bone marrow transplant but it's very costly," she said.
Tham said they had no money for daily meals or transportation. "Thanks to many kind people. They gave us VND100,000 (USD4) to VND200,000 so that we could get home from hospital," Tham said.
Tham also worries about her brother who has a mental illness and has to stay alone while the mother and son struggle in hospital.
