Ill family suffers from muscle dystrophy
A poor woman in Quang Nam Province is calling for financial support to help treat her husband and two sons who are all suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Vo Thi Nga and Tran Van Hon got married and have two sons together. In 2006, Hon was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and can no longer support his family.
Their 24-year-old son, Tran Van Tin, was in 10th grade when he had similar symptoms as his father's. His muscle shrank and his health became so weak that he is bed-bound and has to depend on his mother for everything. Nga has to take care of both ill father and son so she can't go to work.
"My husband and my son already were ill. I only hope my eldest son would be healthy but he couldn't escape this fate. At that time, our neighbours gave me some money to go to him. My mother took care of my husband and youngest son at home," she said.
For three years, Nga was the sole breadwinner of the family and only sleeps for four hours a day. Nga said she just needed charity meals to get through the day.
"I don't know how they got this illness. I heard that it's a hereditary disease because my brother-in-law also has it. He's staying with his parents. His wife already left. I only want to be healthy to take care of my family. Our relatives are also poor," Nga said.
Van Thi Vu, head of the Red Cross Organisation in Ha Lam Town, said, "Their house was built with help from kind people and Chu Van An High School, where Nga's son studied. They are having many difficulties now and really need help from the community."
