Ill mother and daughter call for help
A woman in Thai Binh Province is in need of help to treat her excessive bleeding and her daughter's leukaemia after losing six previous children.
Dao Thi Nhu found out that her 10-year-old daughter, Ngoc Mai, had leukaemia in 2012. Then next year, Nhu was diagnosed with immune thrombocytopenic purpura, a disorder that can lead to easy or excessive bruising and bleeding. This is a chronic illness and Nhu will have to go to hospitals for the rest of her life. In addition, Nhu also has had 10 operations to treat oesophagal perforation.
Dr Nguyen Thi Thao from the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion said the mother and daughter took turn taking care of each other in the hospital. But there's nothing they could do if both of them need emergency treatment at the same time. Nhu's husband is trying to borrow money to pay for their charges.
Nhu had seven pregnancies but her six previous children were born prematurely after five months and couldn't survive.
"Some of them died immediately, some were able to stay with me for one to two months. Ngoc Mai is my only child survived but now she has leukaemia," Nhu said. "She lives, I live. She dies then I also can't keep on living anymore."
