Readers fund new classrooms in Dien Bien
Dantri readers have donated over VND700m (USD30,800) to open new classrooms in the mountainous province of Dien Bien on August 11 for disadvantaged pupils.
Many readers made donations after hearing about the poor conditions the pupils were facing.
Pham Tuan Anh, Dantri's deputy editor-in-chief, said the dangerous roads from Hanoi to Tuan Giao District made them understand more about the difficulties facing the pupils and teachers. "We're very happy when the Hua Muc 1 school site has been improved thanks to the help of Dantri's readers," he said.
Dantri is also building the classrooms for the teachers and children at Ta Lech School which is part of the Mun Chung Nursery School in Dien Bien Province, and at Pang Sang B of Chieng Kheo Primary School in Son La Province with readers' help. The old classrooms are too dilapidated to study in.
The inauguration ceremonies were held on August 10. Dantri gave VND5m (USD219) worth of scholarships, milk and textbooks to the pupils.
The teachers and pupils had to use local houses to hold classes.
