Readers fund new classrooms in Dien Bien

Dantri readers have donated over VND700m (USD30,800) to open new classrooms in the mountainous province of Dien Bien on August 11 for disadvantaged pupils.

  

The teachers and pupils had to use local houses to hold classes.

Hua Muc 1 school site is one of Pu Xi Primary School’s ten sites with 55 pupils. A recent thunderstorm and heavy rain caused landslides and destroyed the school. The teachers and pupils had to use local houses to hold classes.

Many readers made donations after hearing about the poor conditions the pupils were facing.

The construction of five classrooms, three staff rooms, one kitchen and one toilet with a playground and fences was started three months ago for VND700m (USD30,800). Golden Gate Company donated VND120m.

Pham Tuan Anh, Dantri's deputy editor-in-chief, said the dangerous roads from Hanoi to Tuan Giao District made them understand more about the difficulties facing the pupils and teachers. "We're very happy when the Hua Muc 1 school site has been improved thanks to the help of Dantri's readers," he said.

  

Setting up the new classroom

Doan Van Thu, head of Pu Xi Primary School expressed gratitude to everyone who helped rebuild the classrooms. The pupils and teachers now can focus on their jobs without worrying and teachers can stay at school longer and be more comfortable thanks to the new staff rooms.


 

50 scholarships given to disadvantaged pupils.

Dantri gave 50 scholarships that worth VND200,000 each to disadvantaged pupils.

Dantri is also building the classrooms for the teachers and children at Ta Lech School which is part of the Mun Chung Nursery School in Dien Bien Province, and at Pang Sang B of Chieng Kheo Primary School in Son La Province with readers' help. The old classrooms are too dilapidated to study in.

The inauguration ceremonies were held on August 10. Dantri gave VND5m (USD219) worth of scholarships, milk and textbooks to the pupils.
