Mother struggles to help injured son after traffic accident
A mother in Ben Tre Province is calling for financial support to help treat her son who was seriously injured in a traffic accident after losing her oldest son.
Le Thi Leo left her alcoholic and abusive husband 15 years ago and finds every work she can to support the family. Her youngest son, Le Minh Chi, dropped out of school and went to HCM City to work as a bricklayer when he was 17 years old and sent VND2m home each month. They were able to build a small house last year.
Leo said. "I didn't have to money to go to HCM City at the time so my sister lent me VND10m (USD440)."
Chi needs expensive medicines that cost tens of millions of VND each day but he doesn't have health insurance. The transport company only paid the for surgery. Chi's family and the transport company filed the case to the court as it's unclear who's in the wrong.
"I haven't told Chi about the death of his brother yet," Leo said.
Dr Ngo Ngoc Duong from the Anaesthesia-Resuscitation Department at District 2 Hospital said they faced some difficulties during the postoperative care as Chi had pneumonia, an infection and multiple organ failures. He has got better but his life is being threatened by blood clotting problem.
The family doesn't know how to continue the treatment as the hospital bill for the past month is more than VND300m (USD13,200).

Meanwhile, Lam's condition has worsened at home. He had gastrointestinal bleeding and fell into the coma. Leo was able to meet him for the last time before he died."I haven't told Chi about the death of his brother yet," Leo said.
