Poor couple seeks help for ailing son after four children die
A poor couple in the central province of Quang Binh Province have 11 children, however, four of them died, while another is facing the death risk.
The couple, Nguyen An and Cao Thi Vien, both 53 years old, in Con Se Village, Ba Don Town have 11 children, including five sons. Two sons died on Brugada syndrome when they were small and the two others also died of this in 2013 and 2016 when they were both in their twenties.
According to Dr. To Hung Thuy from Hue Central Hospital, Brugada syndrome is a genetically inherited condition that is characterised by abnormal electrocardiogram findings and an increased risk of sudden cardiac death. It is the major cause of sudden unexplained death syndrome also known as sudden adult death syndrome.
Their remaining son has also been found to be at risk of death of the same syndrome. So, the couple had to send him to Hue Central Hospital for the treatment.
Doctors said that he needs a machine that keeps his heart beating which costs around VND250 million (USD11,26).
The family now lives on the small income of some VND3 million (USD136.3) per month from weaving fishing nets for a local workshop, so they can’t afford to buy the machine for the son.
The couple only want to save their child.
