 >>  Poor couple seeks help for ailing son after four children die
Dan Tri News readers have donated over VND36m (USD1,600) to help buy a machine to support an 11-year-old boy suffering from Brugada syndrome in Quang Binh Province.

Thien and his mother (centre) receive the donation

Nguyen An and Cao Thi Vien have 11 children. Two of their sons died of Brugada syndrome when they were small and the two others also died of this in 2013 and 2016 when they were both in their twenties.

Their remaining son, Nguyen Van Thien, is also threatened by the disease and needs a cardioverter–defibrillator that keeps his heart beating which costs around VND250 million (USD11,000). However, the family has a small income of just VND3 million (USD136.30) per month from weaving fishing nets for a local workshop so they can't afford the machine.

The representative of Dan Tri gave the family VND36,685,000 (USD1,600) donated by readers to help Thien overcome the disease.

Dr Nguyen Cuu Loi, deputy director of Hue Centre Hospital helped place the implantable cardioverter–defibrillator that can be used for 10 years for Thien.

Vien said they were grateful for the generosity that would help Thien survive. Pham Nhu Hiep, director of Hue Central Hospital also expressed gratitude and hoped for more help to the disadvantaged cases in the future.
